Days of our Lives star Stephen Nichols has spent many years celebrating the holiday season on the hit soap. There was one tradition in which he played a significant role for a long time, and he still misses it today.
Key Takeaways
- Stephen Nichols wants to be Patchy Claus again.
- The actor recalls the last time he got to play Patchy Claus.
- Another beloved DAYS Christmas tradition.
He Wants To Put On The Santa Suit Again
Every year, a Salem resident reads a Christmas story to sick children at Salem University Hospital. The event also features a visit from Santa Claus. A few times, Steve (Nichols) got to play Santa, renaming the character to Patchy Claus.
It’s been a while since that has taken place, and it’s something the actor misses.
“I’ve been missing playing Patchy Claus. I loved putting on the costume, giving presents to the kids in the nurses’ station, and having Kayla read the story, but I haven’t been able to do that for a while. I think the last time I did it, I was Stefano pretending to be Steve as Patchy Claus!” Nichols shared with Woman’s World.
DAYS fans will remember that in November 2019, Steve returned to Salem but believed he was Stefano (Joseph Mascolo). Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) thought he was Steve and convinced him to play Patchy Claus again. It was a treat for fans and the actor.
Nichols may not be slipping back into the red suit on-screen, but he did take to social media to get DAYS fans in the holiday spirit by becoming Patchy Claus for the cast and crew.
“Santa (sometimes known as Patchy Claus) made a quick stop at the studio on the last day before the holiday break. Spreading cheer, a little mischief, and a whole lot of holiday spirit. Ho ho ho!” he shared as a caption on the video.
Patchy Claus won’t be in Salem, but Nichols made it clear that the Horton family will be hanging those ornaments, and a Christmas story will be read.
Christmas in Salem can’t happen without those two events. Here’s hoping, for fans’ sake and Nichols’, that Patchy Clause makes a return in 2026.
