After EJ’s press conference, several people were shocked and horrified that Stefan showed up as a free man on the April 16 episode of Days of Our Lives.
Chad (Billy Flynn) and Xander (Paul Telfer) demanded to know why EJ (Daniel Feuerriegel) started the press conference early. Chad accused him of avoiding the press, and Xander noted that as a civil servant, it was his duty to address their questions. Even Nicole admonished him for not apologizing to Tate (Leo Howard) and his family, but EJ claimed he gave the apology — she just missed it. (Get up to speed on how EJ’s early press conference hoodwinked everyone.)
Xander demanded specifics on EJ’s apology but didn’t get any. He pressed EJ further for answers about open cases, including his own, but the district attorney deftly avoided fully answering anything, only saying that the investigations and the hunt for Clyde (James Read) are ongoing.
Chad asked EJ about possible nepotism in Stefan’s case. EJ claimed he was confident that the judge would throw the book at his brother, who just so happened to show up in Horton Square at that moment, surprising everyone. Stefan explained that the judge agreed to time served. An angry EJ refused to answer anyone else’s questions and quickly walked away.
Nicole approached Stefan, demanding answers, and blamed him for Holly’s overdose. He pleaded with her that he only helped facilitate the drugs because Clyde had threatened Gabi’s (Camila Banus) life.
At the Brady Pub, Xander filled Sarah in on everything, and she was horrified to hear Stefan was released and was doubly horrified because of all the overdoses she’d seen in the hospital. Xander pondered that Stefan probably blackmailed his way out, and could have been the one who framed him for shooting Harris.
Stefan demanded his assets back from EJ, as well as going back to DiMera Enterprises. EJ said the board didn’t want him, and won’t back down. Stefan threatened to tell Nicole that EJ knew about the drugs if he didn’t get everything back. EJ was not happy to hear this. (Learn more about EJ and Stefan’s animosity toward one another.)
The blackmail between Stefan and EJ has turned into a major game of one-upmanship and is frankly starting to get confusing. The lines between who has what info on the other are getting blurred, and it looks like once the truth gets out about everything, everyone is going to go down including Harris.
EJ knew drugs were running through the city when Stefan begged for his help to stop Clyde. Harris lied about remembering that Stefan shot him, leaving Xander to wonder still who framed him, and that could jeopardize his job on the police force. Stefan stands to lose all of his assets if his blackmail on EJ doesn’t work, so it’s pretty much brown trousers time for those three, who all have a lot to lose.
