Did Paulina know what she was doing when she told Rafe and Jada that she wanted Jada to remain the Salem PD Commissioner? Awkwardness, tension, and denials are what happened. And if it continues, it’ll mean trouble for the newly engaged couple. Rafe and Jada decided to react to the news politically correctly, and they subconsciously refused to dig deep to express their true feelings. Well, in the Thursday, November 14 episode of Days of Our Lives, a couple of conversations helped them get honest with themselves.
In the beginning, Rafe (Galen Gering) said all the right things. He was happy for Jada (Elia Cantu). After all, she deserved this promotion, and he had no problem returning to life as a detective. Paulina (Jackée Harry) didn’t give him a choice. She took the job away from him, but it was more important for him to be happy for his fiancee.
Meanwhile, Jada said the right things, too. She initially said she couldn’t take the job. It was Rafe’s, and she was ready to give it back to him. She was simply an “acting” commissioner. Paulina didn’t give her a choice, but she felt for Rafe more than thinking about her feelings.
The awkwardness that suddenly crept into their relationship was obvious, even for the short time the two shared on screen on Thursday.

Roman (Josh Taylor) became Rafe’s sounding board. As a former Salem PD Commissioner, he knew what Rafe was feeling.
And that feeling wasn’t all happiness for Jada. Roman asked pointed questions to get Rafe to an honest place. Rafe insisted that he had no problem answering to a woman. For example, Hope (Kristian Alfonso) was his boss, and he claimed he had no problem answering to her, which was debatable.
By the end of the conversation, he was able to admit how angry he was that Paulina had taken his job away from him. She was supposed to hold that job open for him while he recovered. And he had every right to sue the city as a result. Does Paulina ever touch base with HR before she makes these decisions?

Gabi (Cherie Jimenez) helped Jada get to the heart of the matter. She knew about power shifts from the numerous times she went up against Stefan (Brandon Barash) for professional supremacy.
Jada was so worried about how this affected Rafe and his ego that she didn’t stop to think about what this meant for herself. Gabi didn’t let Jada stay in the land of denial. And she got her to see that it was okay for her to be happy that she was in charge. And that she was Salem’s first Black Female Commissioner. That was huge, and Jada worked damn hard while Rafe was in a coma.
She didn’t mean for this to happen as a result. But she did deserve it, and more importantly, she liked it. And it sucked that she didn’t feel like she could be happy for her achievement. It was overshadowed by Rafe losing his job.

When Rafe got home, Jada took Gabi’s words to heart and was honest with him. She also told him that she didn’t want some job to come between them. His response was that she had every right to feel what she was feeling. It all made sense. But she no longer had to worry about the job coming between them because he was quitting the force.
How will that solve anything? It will cause Jada to feel immense guilt. She’ll realize that Gabi was right about her brother and how he would understandably feel about being shoved aside. And just what will Rafe do? Does this open things up to start legal proceedings against the city and Paulina?

What’s the end game for Rafe here? Because the PCPD is short-staffed. They need all the cops they can get. This summer, Jada was basically a one-woman police squad hunting down Salem’s criminals. Can Jada talk him out of quitting?
What did you think about Rafe and Jada’s power shift? How about JJ (Casey Moss) unleashing holy hell on Cat (AnnaLynne McCord) and being deadset against Chad’s (Billy Flynn) plan to use Cat as bait? Was Tate (Leo Howard) being genuine with Sophia (Madelyn Kientz)? How about his major faux pas in bed with Sophia? And how nice was it that Holly (Ashley Puzemis) was there for Aaron (Louis Tomeo)?
