Drunk driving was at the heart of two stories on Days of Our Lives — one from the past and one currently causing the maximum amount of chaos in Salem. In the Thursday, September 26 episode, characters acted on perceived notions and couldn’t bring themselves to step back and think about the what-ifs.

Empathy and Open Minds, People!

Xander

Obviously, the audience knows most of the story, so we can see characters like Xander (Paul Telfer — who talks about getting his bad boy groove back here) and Holly (Ashley Puzemis) plotting and lying. And we judge them and their actions because so many of their behaviors are hypocritical.

Sarah’s hit-and-run has Xander reverting to his old self. He had made so much progress, but it’s difficult to see that improvement now. Even Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) is having a hard time seeing it.

Also, what right does Xander have to take a scorched-earth policy with Brady (Eric Martsolf) when he’s done so many horrifying things in his life? Why does Xander refuse to listen to Sarah’s pleas? He knows this brand of vigilante justice wasn’t what she wanted. And then he went through with his dark, diabolical plan anyway.

Holly

Meanwhile, this whole mess has triggered Holly big time. She found out about Eric (Greg Vaughan), and her rage for him, while understandable, is clouding her judgment. Sure, Brady confessed, but he also admitted that he did not remember being behind the wheel. So why is it so hard for these people to step back and think that maybe everything was not what it seemed?

What she did to Tate (Leo Howard — catch him with Ashley Puzemis in the hot seat) was pretty damaging. She showed up at his place under the pretense that she wanted to finally see him and spend time with him, even though she’d been ignoring him. And it was clear she wasn’t thinking about his struggles at all. That she was, in fact, only thinking about her own. Then she proceeded to sneak into his dad’s room and rifle through his things. What was she thinking? Even Nancy Drew wouldn’t have taken that chance. Of course, she got caught!

Honestly, it’s surprising that these two didn’t break up. But it did leave an opening for Sophia. Plus, it was understandable why Holly would think Eric got off easy, but she hasn’t bothered to find out the entire story, much like she ignored Tate’s struggles. That’s kind of her thing. Also, has she forgotten her own actions of the past? And why was she listening to EJ?

Sarah

This show has kept us guessing regarding Sarah’s recollection of the night Fiona hit her. While she expressed her anger with Brady during her conversation with Xander, the end scene with Fiona was vague at best.

Let’s hope Sarah does remember that Fiona was the one who hit her and left her behind. And that’s why she called Jada (Elia Cantu) to handle Xander. And why she didn’t want scorched-earth revenge against Brady. It will be fascinating to learn how Xander, Holly, and even EJ react to finding out Brady Black is innocent.
