Javi reluctantly agreed to keep quiet about the fact that his cousin Rafe slept with the exotic dancer from his bachelor party on Days of Our Lives. Not knowing that the real Rafe is EJ’s prisoner while a doppelganger, Arnold Feniger, is impersonating him. Javi initially agreed to keep Rafe’s dalliance a secret. He would later change his mind and attempt to blurt it out at the wedding, only to get interrupted. Actor Al Calderon weighed in on Javi’s change of heart.

Javi Shouldn’t Be All Judgy

Calderon explained to Soap Opera Digest that Javi was being protective of his cousin, Rafe (Galen Gering), when he decided to keep the affair secret. “He values Rafe’s opinion and respect deeply,” Calderon stated. “When Javi started noticing Rafe’s strange behavior, it definitely rose his eyebrows.” He felt that Javi had no right to judge Rafe, unaware that Rafe literally wasn’t himself.

Leo (Greg Rikaart) was concerned that Javi was making the wrong move by keeping mum about what Rafe did. So, he got up at the “speak now” part and was about to blab the whole thing. Javi stopped him, and it seemed he was going to continue to keep quiet. But Rafe’s cousin had a change of heart and decided he wanted to make the announcement himself.

He Was Caught in a Tough Spot

Calderon continued, explaining Javi’s predicament: “Javi was definitely in a tough spot. Family means everything to him, and protecting Rafe is so important.” Javi was the one who planned the bachelor party in the first place, and had a side remark that his character would have preferred to have the party in Mexico or France, rather than the Brady Pub.

But reflecting on the fallout from the party, Calderon noted, “How could he look at Jada, especially with his mom’s ring on her finger, and not say anything? Javi is a pretty honest and noble guy at heart.” He also feels that while he was about to break Rafe’s trust, “Sometimes we have to do what feels right, even if it means hurting the ones we love. That was the hardest part of this decision for him.” (Find out how Rikaart unpacked Leo’s drama with Javi.)
