In the Wednesday, May 7 episode of Days of Our Lives, Philip continued his apology tour. This time, he gave a sincere mea culpa to Stephanie. Not only did we feel his sincerity, but Stephanie did, too. She wasn’t ready to let bygones be bygones, but she hoped they’d be friends again in the future. Meanwhile, Shawn and Belle had a nice moment. Sarah suggested that she and Xander go on a weekend getaway. And Kayla made it easier for Shawn and Steve to plan their heist. Speaking of which, the potential miracle cure for sepsis, aka Versivex, fueled a new battle between Xander and EJ. What’s at stake: the hospital and Bo’s health.
Xander Versus EJ for Versivex
The EJ Side of Things
Dr. Jeffrey Russell’s miracle cure has quickly become a valuable drug, one that EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) has made a priority even before he was shot. Yes, he and Russell (Michael Dietz) have been cohorts for a while, from the sound of it. Obviously, a delay happened when someone shot EJ. But now it was time to go full force with his plan.
This involved visiting Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) and telling her he wanted to be the hospital’s savior. He was willing to bankroll the place and save it from closing. He didn’t count on Kayla being so suspicious of his motives that she declined his offer. She knew that if he was willing to buy the hospital, it came with strings.
Kayla’s smart. She had no idea that EJ teamed up with Dr. Russell. But she felt that even though EJ’s money could save the hospital from closing, it wasn’t worth it. She told her recent patient that if he does go over her head to the board, she will advise them not to take him up on his offer. Her word should mean more than his, considering most of the town hates him.

The Xander Side of Things
Meanwhile, in Titan land, Alex (Robert Scott Wilson) researched more about the DiMera Pharmaceuticals arm of the company and realized they were also working on a cure for sepsis, but they were well behind Salem University Hospital’s Dr. Russell. So, Xander (Paul Telfer) figured if DP couldn’t come up with the goods anytime soon, why not buy the hospital?
Buying the hospital would kill a few birds with one stone. It would prevent the hospital from closing, thereby saving Sarah’s (Linsey Godfrey) job. And they could benefit from Versivex, which, once it cleared all the hurdles, would rake in billions and billions of dollars.
The question is, who will get to Versivex first? EJ has the lead for now. But Kayla might be more willing to accept Xander’s offer over EJ’s, even though both men have been notoriously shady. Something on Xander’s side — Victor (the late John Aniston) was Bo’s (Peter Reckell) dad, so Titan would be more amenable to handing the drug over to help deal with Bo’s sepsis. Aligning with Titan could be a win-win for Kayla.

5 Burning Questions
What is the point of Stephanie’s (Abigail Klein) racy romance novel? Will Alex convince her to let Titan’s publishing arm release it?
Why is Sarah so desperate to get Xander out of town?
If this Versivex business comes down to Titan versus EJ DiMera, then will Shawn (Brandon Beemer) and Steve’s (Stephen Nichols) heist actually be successful? Will they even need the heist if Xander convinces Kayla that Titan should buy the hospital?
Anybody missing Philip (John-Paul Lavoisier) in these business scenes with Xander and Alex? Just us?
How much is EJ worth? How independently wealthy is he?
