Leo loves it when people feel sorry for him on Days of our Lives. He goes on and on about his sad, pitiful childhood, and how the man of his dreams is in prison. The only thing he has left is his job, bringing the gossip of the day to eager Salem readers as the beloved, bespoke, benevolent Lady Whistleblower. But if that’s the case, why is Leo going out of his way to ruin his career — in two different ways?
Leo (Greg Rikaart) assumes that his column is such a hit, he’s irreplaceable. He can write anything he wants, and the public will lap it up, buying the paper — is The Spectator still published on paper; is it all digital now? — and clicking to drive up those page views, that any and all topics are fair game. Even the love life of his editor, Everett (Blake Berris), and the paper’s Public Relations consultant, Stephanie (Abigail Klein).
We knew Leo was dumb (not good since he needs to make more money because of this). Look at any and every decision he’s ever made for evidence of that. But we didn’t know he was this dumb. Did he really think he could publish dirt about his boss…and get away with it? Did he think that the paper’s editor would forget to edit this morning?
Does Leo think he’s so talented that he doesn’t even need his grammar and spelling checked? Everett was bound to see what Leo was doing, even if Leo hadn’t blabbed to him about what he was doing. And that could well have been the end of Lady Whistleblower.
Then again, even if Everett — on orders from Chad (Billy Flynn) — let Leo have his way (though why would Chad want it in print who his ex-girlfriend had moved on from him to?), does Leo really believe the citizens of Salem would care about this? Everett and Stephanie aren’t celebrities. They’re not even rich tabloid fodder like the DiMeras or the Kiriakis family. They are nobodies. They won’t drive subscriptions or clicks. Leo is really losing his touch. In the real world, he wouldn’t last.
