This week, Kennedy Garcia makes her much-anticipated debut on Days of Our Lives. She plays Felicity, a character Chanel previously referred to as one of her favorite Sweet Bits customers. The actress recently revealed more about her groundbreaking character.
Positivity, Heart, and Cool Dance Moves
Garcia’s time to shine on DAYS is almost here. She first appears as Felicity on Wednesday, May 22. “I got the audition for Felicity last year, and I was so excited!” she recently told TV Insider. “I have wanted to be on a soap opera for a long time, so for a role to come up for a teenager with Down syndrome was just amazing.”
Garcia is actually the first teen with Down syndrome to appear on an American daytime soap. Securing such a key role isn’t just a win for the Tennessee native but also a win for inclusion and representation. “I am so proud of Days of Our Lives for taking a chance on me. Inclusion in this industry is so important, and I am proud to help move it forward.”
The cancer survivor is all about spreading positivity with Felicity. At the core of the character who loves to bake and visit Sweet Bits every day is heart. “She is sweet, funny, and kind,” Garcia revealed. “She is also very smart, and she never misses anything. Most of all, she loves her family more than anything else.” (Find out what’s ahead on DAYS with Soap Hub’s two-week breakdown)
Viewers and her fellow Salemites will no doubt learn Felicity is also formidable. The 18-year-old can’t wait for people to look beyond the fact Felicity has Down syndrome and see that “she is cherished by her family and friends, she is capable of great things, and she’s a hard worker. I’m pretty sure she bakes better than I do.
“She is also a typical teenager who has real feelings and fears that people will see as her story goes on,” she continued. “I hope no one underestimates Felicity as a character or actors with disabilities like me. Representation is so important, and I’m so thankful for this opportunity to become Felicity and let you all get to know her and me!”
The actress, model, and public speaker has also danced competitively. But she also dances purely for the fun of it. In fact, she’s been known to post dance videos on TikTok — one even featured pop superstar Meghan Trainor. This means her DAYS stars should be ready at any moment’s notice to do the same.
Just the other day, Garcia’s costar, Raven Bowens (Chanel Dupree), joined her for a brief dance interlude. “Behind the scenes at @dayspeacock hard at work,” wrote Garcia on Instagram. In the comments, Bowens replied, “@kennedyjean04 ate me up 🤣🤣🤣 but I love it.”
