Salem bid goodbye to one of the good ones on the December 3 Days of Our Lives. It was a beautiful memorial service, as Julie gave a heartbreaking and heart-lifting eulogy for the love of her life.
This was another episode that required a box of tissues. It showed everybody’s love for Doug (the late Bill Hayes) and Julie’s (Susan Seaforth Hayes) strength and kicked off a couple of mysteries.
Eli and Shawn stepped up for Julie. When it came time for Julie to give her eulogy, Eli (Lamon Archey) and Shawn (Brandon Beemer) got up and led her to the podium. They lent her their strength. Even though Julie had plenty of it, her grandsons ensured she knew they were there for her.
Julie’s eulogy. Every single word Julie said in honor of her husband was poetic, beautiful, heartbreaking, and educational. She told the story of her husband and gave people insight into Doug, the former con man, Navy man, and the kind gentleman he evolved into over the years.
She referred to Doug as her ageless, beautiful troubadour. Ultimately, she remembered their life together, how he made her feel, what he loved about life, and all the places he took her. After she told everyone about their travels to Egypt and the Taj Mahal, she said one of the most poignant things: “And he took me to paradise with every kiss.”
Julie takes a moment. After everybody left for the cemetery, Julie stayed behind and allowed herself to breathe for a moment. She looked like she was about to break down but stayed strong. And she went over to the framed photo of Doug and held onto his portrait for dear life.
Julie’s strength. Julie and her portrayer, Susan Seaforth Hayes, were impressive. Their strength was amazing to behold. And this line said it best: “I lost the love of my life today, but I feel love all around me from all of you.”
Liz sings “Always”: Liz Chandler (Gloria Loring) led everyone in an emotional rendition of one of Doug’s go-to songs, “Always.” Doug’s friends and family sang along, and we saw flashbacks of Doug and Julie’s incredible lives together. It was one of the best moments of the episode.

Mystery #1: The missing diamond necklace. Ciara (Victoria Konefal) somehow opened that time capsule, and one of the vintage items in it was Julie’s grandmother’s diamond necklace. It was clearly worth a fortune, and it was missing by the end of the episode. Did Steve Olson (Stephen Schnetzer) take it? He said he was a changed man, but he still looked suspicious. If not him, who took it?
Mystery #2: Julie meets a mystery man who calls himself Doug Williams. Well, we know he’s Doug Williams III (Peyton Meyer). But what does he want? Why did he decide to approach Julie now? What’s his deal?
