Mary Beth Evans made her Salem debut on Days of our Lives back on May 23, 1986 — 36 years ago yesterday. To honor their beloved co-star, her onscreen husband Steve Johnson’s portrayer, Stephen Nichols, and her former onscreen sister-in-law Adrienne Johnson, Judi Evans, decided to mark the incredible occasion.
Paying Tribute To Mary Beth Evans
The two co-stars did so in separate Instagram posts on Monday. First, Evans shared a heartwarming scene in which Adrienne told Evans’s character, Kayla Brady, how much she means to her. “I could have written these words myself ❤️,” she began the caption. “My first friend on #Days and the loving sister I always wanted. Happy 36th Anniversary, [Mary Beth Evans]! #EvansGirls #36YearsofKayla #KaylaJohnson.”
In the clip, Adrienne said, “Remember when I first came to Salem. I didn’t know anybody and I was all alone.” Kayla did indeed remember. “Well, you were my first friend and I’ll never forget how kind you were and how caring you were. All my life as I was growing up, I always wanted to know what it was like to have a sister and when I met you, I finally knew.” As the two go on to hug it out, it brings back great memories for those of us who recall watching the scene — and their special relationship. Mary Beth Evans commented back, “Love you!”

Not to be outdone, Nichols also wanted to shine a spotlight on his special scene partner of over three decades. The clip he chose was when Steve was watching Kayla and sees her enter her apartment. “36 years, baby! So grateful for the day that door opened and you walked into the room, my best friend and favorite screen partner,” he wrote in the caption. “Happy Anniversary, Sweetness! ❤️ @marybeth.evans” Soap Hub joins both actors in wishing Mary Beth Evans all the best on 36 years since her first Salem debut!
