The Great Beyond
Stefano (Joseph Mascolo) hasn’t been in Salem in years. EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) talks to his portrait. Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) is inspired by him. Chad (Billy Flynn) is periodically afraid of turning into him. Johnny (Carson Boatman) only remembers the larger-than-life figure of his childhood. Theo (Tyler Joseph Andrews) barely knew him at all. And, Marlena (Deidre Hall) periodically dreams about Parisian nighttime exploits, but that hasn’t turned into anything, storywise.
Dr. Rolf (Richard Wharton), of course, still worships him and continues to dedicate his life and work to him. But they do all these things without him. His family and acolytes are already acting like Stefano is dead.
No Going Back
Rolf told EJ that Stefano’s body was so decomposed (ewww…) by the time Rolf found him that there was no opportunity to put him on ice for a possible future resurrection. Stefano is not the person in EJ’s shiny green tube, and EJ has known that all along. A mystery woman is, instead.
So if it wasn’t even Stefano they were thinking of bringing back to life, and if his substantial fortune has already been distributed to his heirs, and the CEO position of DiMera Enterprises is being handed around like a corporate game of ring around the rosie, then what does knowing Stefano is really, most sincerely dead really bring to the table, story-wise?
