Days of Our Lives January 23: Why Holly and Tate Will Eventually Go Their Separate Ways

Hope and Tate haven’t had a moment’s peace since reuniting. Their rhythm is off due to outside obstacles. And those outside forces will be their undoing.

Salem turned its focus to runaway child Rachel Black and the conflict between pregnant Sophia and her mom. Holly and Tate’s scenes were fun and then frustrating. Suddenly, we realized a pattern had developed between them. Every time they start to reconnect, something prematurely breaks their bond or connection. It happened again in the Thursday, January 23 episode of Days of Our Lives.

The Rhythm of Their Relationship

Holly (Ashley Puzemis) and Tate’s (Leo Howard) relationship has been chaotic at best. There’s never a moment’s peace between them. First, Holly’s actions were problematic and resulted in an accidental overdose and a coma. Meanwhile, Tate was blamed for the drugs and had to endure so many challenges because Holly kept the truth to herself post-coma.

They were Salem’s answer to Romeo and Juliet, without the deaths (only near-deaths). They had to figure out how to be together despite their families forbidding their love. More recently, Holly’s obsession with Brady (Eric Martsolf) paying for Sarah’s (Linsey Godfrey) hit-and-run resulted in Tate establishing a connection with Sophia (Madelyn Kientz — who is on her way out at DAYS).

Despite having so-called safe sex, Tate and Sophia are about to have a baby, which is naturally causing a serious amount of turbulence. While Holly and Tate are currently a couple, they’re not getting to spend much time together. Not to mention, Holly’s new potential love interest has materialized.

They May Be Done, They Just Don’t Know It Yet

Holly’s growth and character development is showing. She tried to set aside her problems and be there for Tate, who was worried about his missing sister. Sure, they talked about the pregnancy, but she changed the subject to Rachel (Finley Rose Slater — who is on her way out at DAYS). She proactively attempted to help by getting the word out on social media.

For a moment, they were in a good place. Then, a distraught Sophia understandably showed up at Tate’s house after she argued with her mother. Amy Choi (Shi Ne Nielson) told her daughter adoption was out of the question. Her emergency interrupted Holly and Tate’s rhythm, and Holly left.

With a baby on the way, Holly and Tate aren’t about to get back on track anytime soon. And, of course, there’s the Doug III (Peyton Meyer) situation. He and Holly have sparked a friendship. But knowing DAYS, it may develop into more. There’s chemistry, first of all. And their dynamic may not be as complicated as Holly and Tate have become.

We could be seeing the end of the Holly and Tate relationship. At least for now. Do you think they are the type of couple who will continually find their way back to each other? Or after their next breakup, do you think it’ll be permanent? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
