A stabbed Rafe fights for his life on the July 15 episode of Days of Our Lives. Plus, Abe and Kate make incredible headway in resurrecting a fallen soap as the show gets even more meta.
In a horrific move, Connie (Julie Dove) stabbed Rafe (Galen Gerring) near Abigail’s (Marci Miller) gravesite and planned to bury him in the empty plot. He still had a pulse, and it looked as if the gravediggers wouldn’t find him in time, however Jada (Elia Cantu) showed up, thankfully scaring the villainess off before she could complete her nefarious task. While Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) and a nurse worked on him, he went into shock, and they had to act fast in order to save his life. But will he be resuscitated in time?
Meanwhile, Connie convinced Gabi (Cherie Jimenez) to hire her to work on the revived Gabi Chick line. Then, she went off to confer with Bobby (Blake Berris), assuring him that she took care of Rafe. He had already kept quiet about the fact that she murdered Li (Remington Hoffman) as a gesture of good faith. Both villains were happy with their progress, but how long can that last? Good guys tend to work well together because they’re inherently trustworthy and are able to use their strengths together. Villains, however, cannot be trusted, and it’s only a matter of time before one tries to kill the other to ensure their silence.
Kate (Lauren Koslow) managed to distract Chad (Billy Flynn) from his worry over whether or not Abigail (Marci Miller) is alive by asking him to invest in her and Abe’s (James Reynolds) new project: Reviving the canceled soap-within-the-soap, Body & Soul, and producing it in Salem.
Their conversation got interesting as Chad explained that he knew nothing about soap operas but was willing to give it a go because he had fun working on Johnny’s (Carson Boatman) prior project. He said his mother used to watch soaps, but he didn’t recall anything about them, which has happened to many people in real life. Kate responded that there were “fewer than there used to be,” which was a nice nod to the current, real-life state of soaps.
Meanwhile, Abe told Paulina (Jackée Harry) his and Kate’s plan to revive B&S. She said her husband knew the show very well, however Abe had to admit that, “There are decades of history with this show. I mean, you have no idea of all the outlandish stories that have been told over the years.”
He went on to mention several plot points that sounded similar to ones that have occurred on DAYS, further entrenching the show within as a reflection of their “real” world. Once the soap gets revived, they are clearly going to draw on the scenarios that have happened in Salem, and things will get super freaky super fast as art will reflect “life,” and life will continue to reflect the art of a soap opera. There’s a lot to be pondered about the parallels that will occur within the show as it references itself in the coming months.
