For once, Leo hasn’t created a mischievous scheme on Days of Our Lives. He’s been pouring all his energy into writing for the Abe and Kate-produced reboot of the soap-within-a-soap, Body & Soul. He even met a new love interest in Javi. But when spoilers and ideas for the show were purloined from his laptop and shared across the Internet, Javi seemed to be the only logical suspect since Leo left him alone with the computer. Greg Rikaart opened up about the romance that ended almost before it started.
Leo flipped out when he saw spoilers from the show, revealing all of the major B&S twists to come online. He thought he had something good when he and Javi (Al Calderon) hooked up. But when he accused his new friend of being the perpetrator, Javi really let him have it. Subsequently, he broke things off. Rikaart explained to Soap Opera Digest that his accusations made “Leo second-guess himself, and he feels regret,” adding that sadly, “Leo tries to make amends, but Javi wants no part of it.”
He also likened this disaster of a relationship to his previous calamity when Dimitri (Peter Porte) dumped him. This is just par for the course for Leo. Javi wants nothing to do with Leo anymore, and that’s too bad since the two could have shared something substantial. “For Leo, it felt like it wasn’t really just a one-night stand. That it maybe had some legs,” the actor explained.

Rikaart loved that Leo finally got another love interest. But before filming their first scenes together, he and Calderon didn’t have much time to get to know one another. However, afterward, they’ve been able to hang out and learn about each other. Of his scene partner, Rikaart gushed, “He’s very emotionally available, and we’ve bonded over some similar life experiences…It’s been a nice evolution.”

Rikaart hopes there will be more between Leo and Javi but also likes it when something comes between a soap opera couple. He feels that happy couples are uninteresting and enjoys having to deal with turmoil in a character’s relationship. “I think the world of Al,” he stated, continuing, “but it’s more fun to play when you’re not just a happy couple.”
