The Monday, February 10 episode of Days of Our Lives featured Salem’s two favorite hostages. Ava was super close to freedom until Mama Rachel influenced her daughter. Meanwhile, a close call for EJ caused him to make a moving decision.
Jada’s Defender
Jada (Elia Cantu) was so close to finding Rafe (Galen Gering). She cornered EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) in his robe down in the tunnels right outside the room where he had Rafe tied up. Even though the so-called corrupt cop heard some noise, she didn’t pursue it. EJ explained it away as construction.
Paulina (Jackée Harry) told Shawn (Brandon Beemer) that she replaced Jada as commissioner. Instead, she named ‘Rafe’ (Galen Gering) the temporary commissioner. Shawn sang Jada’s praises and defended his boss to the mayor. While Paulina insisted she wanted Jada to be innocent, Shawn didn’t waiver on Jada’s innocence at all.
In fact, he took it upon himself to tell Jada the news about Paulina naming ‘Rafe’ acting commissioner. Jada wondered if her fiancé didn’t love her like she thought he did. That’s never good. Shawn supported her, believed in her, and comforted her.
Meanwhile, the close call with Jada almost discovering Real Rafe in the tunnels of the DiMera mansion was too much for EJ. He decided to move Rafe to Aremid, where, unbeknownst to him, Ava (Tamara Braun) was already a hostage.

What This Could Mean
Like Rafe, Ava was also close to freedom. Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) almost did the right thing until her mother, Adult Rachel (Roslyn Gentle), prevented that. Rachel talked her daughter into seeing how freeing Ava could blowback on Kid Rachel (Finley Rose Slater). And Kristen listened. She apologized to Ava and said she had to protect her daughter.
However, Ava has two other chances to escape that vintage wheelchair. 1) Steve (Stephen Nichols) and Brady (Eric Martsolf) could figure something out should Steve successfully enhance Ava’s garbled voicemail. 2) EJ hauled Real Rafe over to Aremid. Maybe two hostages can figure out how to get out of their predicament.

As for Shawn and Jada, Shawn’s defense of Jada was pretty strong. When he and Jada talked, it felt like a connection started to spark. How long will Fake Rafe treat her badly? And how long will Real Rafe remain a hostage? Because both of those situations could result in Jada and Shawn getting closer and closer.
