It was a day of big returns and flashbacks on the December 2 episode of Days of Our Lives. While Friday’s episode was a total sobfest (at least for us), we were able to keep it together a little bit more today. However, the sweet memories, exciting returns, and incredible flashbacks made us wish this episode was two hours long.

Today on DAYS, there were several great blasts from the past, in addition to Jack (Matthew Ashford) and Jennifer (Melissa Reeves), who returned last week. Liz Chandler’s (Gloria Loring) first stop was Marlena’s (Deidre Hall), where the two reconnected. In Horton Town Square, Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) ran into Marie Horton (Maree Cheatham).
While Jennifer grieved for Doug (the late Bill Hayes), Lucas (Bryan Dattilo) returned home. Then Shawn (Brandon Beemer) and Ciara (Victoria Konefal) showed up. Meanwhile, Lani (Sal Stowers) and Eli (Lamon Archey), who returned last week, gave a lesson on Doug’s colorful past. Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) was stunned when her little brother Steve Olson (Stephen Schnetzer) suddenly popped up right in front of her…well, in front of her window. Plus, Jack (Matthew Ashford) joined Abe (James Reynolds), Paulina (Jackée Harry), Steve (Stephen Nichols), Kayla (Mary Beth Evans), and Roman (Josh Taylor) in reminiscing about Doug. Finally, Belle (Martha Madison) gives Marlena an update.
Monday’s episode started off with a flashback of a jailed Doug. Back then he was a con man in prison for securities fraud. And his name was Brent Douglas who changed it to Doug Williams when he was released. The name-change signaled a fresh start..
Liz Chandler showed up at Marlena’s. Liz hasn’t been in Salem since 1986 and she subsequently lost touch with Marlena. Her daughter Noelle is all grown up with a good job and a serious boyfriend. Oh, and Liz still can’t stand Marie Horton.
Jennifer took some time to feel the weight of the loss she and her family are experiencing while looking at photos of Doug and the Horton family.
Speaking of Marie, she reminisced about her parents Tom and Alice before she reminisced even more with Maggie. And, oh yeah, she still despises Liz Chandler.
Lucas is back and his memories of Doug included how welcoming the man was after Lucas found out he was a Horton. Lucas and Jennifer also talked about Doug giving the best hugs.
This was a new “flashback.” This is a Young Doug, who’s played by Peyton Meyer, who’s about to land in Salem for real. He’ll play Doug and Julie’s grandson, Doug Williams III.
Julie was stunned when she looked out the window and saw her brother Steve Olson, who hasn’t set foot in Salem in decades.
Steve told Julie he was transformed and is no longer the conman he used to be. Julie pretty much told him he better be a changed man because he has a tall, handsome grandson who’s in the FBI.
Shawn and Ciara returned with news about Hope. She won’t be at Doug’s memorial service because Bo’s hand moved and she feels she should be there because he may be coming out of the coma. Ciara has two kids now, little Bo and Addie, named after her grandmother. Also, Ciara somehow opened the time capsule. What’s in there?
Lani read the thorough obit Jack wrote about Doug and loved learning about Doug’s past. She couldn’t believe everything that he’d been through.
Eli schooled Lani on Doug Williams 101 including his prison stint and Julie’s brother Steve.
Jack reconnected with Abe, Steve, Kayla, Paulina, and Roman. They all talked about Doug and how much he meant to them.
Finally, Belle arrived and reunited with Marlena. Apparently, Belle is giving Shawn his space. She really has no idea what’s going on with him, but she wanted to be there to support him as he says goodbye to his grandfather. In the meantime, she’s been in Japan consulting for DiMera Enterprises.
