On Days of our Lives, Kayla Brady has experienced many adventures (and misadventures) over the years. Off-screen, actress Mary Beth Evans, who has played Kayla on and off since the mid-1980s, is celebrating a special day.
That’s because she was born on March 7, 1961, in Pasadena, California, which means that this talented performer turned 63 years old today! Evans’s career began with an episode of the syndicated talk show parody Madame’s Place and was quickly followed by episodes of Father Murphy, Masquerade, Riptide, and Knight Rider, as well as the TV movie Secrets of a Mother and Daughter and the feature films Toy Soldiers and Lovelines.
Between 1984 and 1985, she starred in the syndicated daytime soap opera Rituals as Dakota Lane and found herself featured in an episode of Remington Steele. In 1986, she was hired to portray Kayla Brady on the NBC daytime drama Days of our Lives.
Evans’s debut episode aired on May 23 of that year, and her eventual pairing opposite Stephen Nichols as Steve Johnson proved to be one of the most popular supercouplings of the 1980s.
Following her exit in 1992, Mary Beth Evans accepted an offer to appear on ABC’s General Hospital. For the next six years, she played bad girl Katherine Bell. Afterward, she was Sierra Estaban on As the World Turns (2003-2005).
She was back as DAYS’ Kayla in 2006, but that stint ended in 2009. A third return in 2010 has (so far) proved permanent. Evans’s other acting credits include guest spots on episodes of Law and Order: SVU, Nip/Tuck, Criminal Minds, and Body of Proof. She also has recurring roles on Chasing Life and This Just In.
Since 2010, Evans has starred in and produced the online serial The Bay — a venture which so far has netted her multiple Daytime Emmy awards and a streaming deal with Amazon Prime. She also received the 2016 Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
Soap Hub would like to wish Mary Beth Evens a very happy birthday, and you can, too, by clicking the X (formerly Twitter) link below. Also, share your favorite memory of her work or if you’ve met her personally in the comments section.
