This talented thespian won a Daytime Emmy for his portrayal of Sonny Kiriakis on Days of our Lives back in 2015, but performer Freddie Smith is busy celebrating another major milestone.

Happy Birthday, Freddie Smith

That’s because he was born on March 19, 1988, in Ashtabula, Ohio, which means that this talented actor is turning 36 years old today! Though he thought he might make a career out of playing basketball, Smith fell in love with the performing arts after enrolling in a theater art class during his senior year of high school.

Upon graduation, Smith relocated to Los Angeles and hit the audition circuit. In 2008, he landed his first on-camera role, and even though his brief cameo in an episode of Medium went uncredited, Smith persevered.

During the next two years, he appeared in the short film Weak Species (as Jock number 3) and One Wish (as Sara’s boyfriend). In 2011, he joined the cast of 90210 as a recurring character Marco Salazar.

On June 23, 2011, Smith made his DAYS debut as Jackson “Sonny” Kiriakis, a part that would eventually net him a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actor (see what happened to that category recently).

Smith departed the NBC sudser in 2015 but continued to make sporadic appearances until an April of 2016 return. He stayed until fall 2020 with a brief New Year’s Eve Zoom appearance. Aside from his work on DAYS, Smith has been seen in many nationally aired commercials for products and businesses such as Taco Bell, JC Penney, and Samsung.

He also co-wrote, executive produced, directed, and edited a well-received horror feature, The Hiker, released in 2015.
