On Days of our Lives alum Peter Reckell has portrayed Bo Brady off and on throughout the years, but he likely won’t be back anytime soon. However, Reckell has something big to celebrate in real life.
Happy Birthday, Peter Reckell
That’s because he was born on May 7, 1955, in Elkhart, Indiana, which means that this talented man is turning 69 years old today! Upon graduating from the prestigious Boston Conservatory with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, Reckell made his on-camera acting debut in the role of Eric Hollister on As the World Turns.
His tenure at the venerable CBS serial lasted between 1980 and 1982. Subsequently, he appeared in an episode of The Facts of Life before joining the cast of NBC’s Days of our Lives.
His work as Bo Brady — the rough and tumble former Merchant Marine turned private investigator turned police officer — endeared him to millions of daytime drama fans, and his pairing opposite actress Kristian Alfonso (Hope Williams Brady, who will return for Doug’s memorial) resulted in one of the genre’s most popular supercouples.
His work originally aired from 1983 to 1987 and from 1990 to 1991. He returned to the role for the third time in August 1995 and remained there until October 2012. A final quick return in 2015 culminated with Bo’s passing. Fortunately, like many in Salem, Bo hadn’t really died.
Reckell’s other screen credits include guest appearances on series such as The Law and Harry McGraw, Baywatch, Women of the House, and Sheena, as well as recurring roles on Knots Landing and the web series Venice.
Among his many theater credits are Moonchildren, The Fantasticks, The Pirates of Penzance, Jesus Christ Superstar, Guys and Dolls, Love Letters, and Deathtrap.
Reckell has also appeared in two feature films (Broken Bridges and Street Dreams) and recorded an anonymous album. He has been married to singer, songwriter, and producer Kelly Moneymaker since April 18, 1998, and the couple share one child, a daughter, Loden Sloan (born October 25, 2007).
