Forget about who’s in charge at Titan on Days of our Lives. The real drama is continuing off-screen related to co-executive producer/director Albert Alarr and reported accusations of misconduct. Now, there’s a new development that involves over two dozen cast members.
As previously reported, Deadline broke a story that an investigation was conducted by Sony Pictures Television, which distributes DAYS, into alleged misconduct by Albert Alarr, who has been co-executive producer of the soap since 2015. He also serves as one of the show’s directors. Now, the entertainment news website is reporting that 25 actors have signed a petition asking for a new leader to take over at the studio of the Peacock soap opera.
Deadline obtained a copy of the petition/document, which states that many of the show’s actors “feel — and will continue to feel — very uncomfortable and distraught should he [Alarr] stay involved with the show. Many of us have either been physically or verbally violated by him, including witnessing those objectionable and offensive actions.”
The petition recommends that Alarr be removed and that his successor be a producer/director whom the cast respects and trusts. The petition reads: “We all want to make the most of this significant moment, not just for us in entertainment, but for our loyal viewers and the culture as a whole.”
Deadline interviewed DAYS personnel since its initial report on the condition of anonymity. One new allegation alleges that Alarr said something disrespectful to an actress who wore for a storyline a “spangly, somewhat tight-fitting ’70s-style jumpsuit and a David Bowie-style [F]lock-of-[S]eagulls [band] haircut for several scenes.”
The scene in question was shot a few months ago, per Deadline. As DAYS tapes several months in advance, it’s likely that scene hasn’t aired yet. One source claims that “he [Alarr] meant [the remark] to be humiliating in front of an all-male crew.”
DAYS was set to return to production earlier this week after a scheduled break, but it was reported that the show would remain dark and take another week off, presumably to deal with this ongoing issue. At press time, DAYS had not released any additional statements in light of Deadline‘s newest report. Soap Hub will bring updates as they become available.
