Days of Our Lives fan favorite Dan Feuerriegel went under the knife this week.

DAYS fave Dan Feuerriegel (EJ) underwent surgery for a new pacemaker. “All went well, just a little groggy,” the hospitalized actor recounted in an Instagram story. “Fun fact. They gave me enough sedative to take down a horse (docs words, not mine) and I still woke up during the procedure. 😩 I am secretly Wolverine. Felt them stitching me up. Ouchie. ☠️” The actor has had a pacemaker since he was seventeen. Feuerriegel has been keeping fans in the loop about his recovery, sharing with them the flowers, stuffed animals, and well wishes he has been sent. The actor also showed off his scar.

The actor may have joked about being Wolverine, but Feuerriegel actually did play a hero on Spartacus, where he starred as Agron, a gladiator and a loyal member of Spartacus’ rebellion against the Roman Empire. Agron started as a key ally to Spartacus, fighting for freedom and justice alongside other slaves and gladiators. While he certainly had moments of moral complexity, he was not a villain in the traditional sense. He was a good guy, deeply committed to the cause of liberating slaves and overthrowing Roman tyranny.
