The Friday, January 10 episode of Days of Our Lives had us feeling all the feels. Julie and Chad had a long conversation about their grief. They comforted each other so beautifully. Meanwhile, Stephanie calling Philip a fraud made us root for her to immediately blab it to the world. And we were happy that Doug III came clean with Holly. But the conversation that hit us the hardest was the one between Marlena and Cat.
Unexpected Conversation
When Cat (AnnaLynne McCord) walked up to Marlena’s (Deidre Hall) table, it was unclear what the two would discuss. Maybe Cat wanted to seek therapy. After all, she needs it, and everybody in town sees Dr. Marlena Evans. However, it turned out to be about something we hadn’t even thought about in a minute.
Cat had returned from seeing her mom in Vancouver. Her mom told her the story behind that fateful day in Greece when John (the late Drake Hogestyn) thought he had killed (and then injured) Cat’s mom, Catherina (Susan Elena Matus).
Everybody had their own version of the story and never a complete version. We accept this version. Victor (the late John Aniston) actually sent John, aka The Pawn, to rescue Catherina. Her mother was trapped in a horribly abusive marriage to Konstantin (John Kapelos). Elizabeth knew she wouldn’t be able to escape Konstantin with their daughter. Konstantin wouldn’t let her.

So they faked Catherina’s death and brought her to the States. Elizabeth was able to make her way to the U.S. as well, where she was able to raise Catherina in secret. Konstantin was an awful, selfish man. But losing his daughter wasn’t what broke him. He was always the worst of the worst.
Cat’s story gives John and Marlena peace of mind. Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) and maybe even Steve (Stephen Nichols), too. What he did was enable a mother and daughter to live their lives free of abuse.
The conversation between Marlena and Cat turned out to be emotional, especially since it was one of John’s last storylines before the world lost Drake Hogestyn. John was in turmoil over what he felt he had done to Catherina. It turned out that he had helped her, not hurt her. Cat called John a hero (which was when we may or may not have teared up).

Towards the end of the episode, Marlena contacted Shane (Charles Shaughnessy). She wanted to phone John so she could tell him the story, and so he could finally have the peace of mind he deserved.
This was a wonderful way to wrap up a story that felt incomplete. What did you think of the Cat and Marlena conversation? Let us know in the comments.
