After EJ addressed his father’s portrait and ran down the litany of enemies who hate him, someone shot EJ DiMera in his own home. In the Thursday, April 3 episode of Days of Our Lives, EJ’s foes flashed back to their own incendiary interactions with the former Salem DA. And they acted pretty cagey. For example, Ava hightailed it out of town only after she got rid of her gun in the park trash receptacle.
Eight Questions
What did EJ mean when he said he alluded to the fact that he was one step ahead?
Did EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) simply mean that he has been able to stay out of jail by making the moves he has been making, like disappearing Rachel Blake (Roslyn Gentle)? Or did he mean something else more recent?
How much time had passed between EJ talking to Stefano’s portrait and his being shot?
We’re going to need to know how much time “Sometime Later” was. Right now, the timeline seems clouded, and we’re unable to completely suss out who had time to get to the DiMera mansion and then get home or somewhere else.
How did Ava think she could leave town so soon after EJ was shot?
Ava (Tamara Braun) leaving town doesn’t seem sus at all, oh no. The Salem PD will wonder why the former Mafia princess didn’t stick around, right? Also, with Thursday’s episode being the last time we’ll see Ava (according to Braun) for the foreseeable future, does this mean that even though she looked hella guilty, we should write Ava off? She told Roman (Josh Taylor) and Kate (Lauren Koslow) that she was moving to Hong Kong to be with Tripp (Lucas Adams) and Wendy (Victoria Grace). Is she telling the truth? Because if she was guilty, the police could still go after her. What are the extradition rules like in Hong Kong? Perhaps she is going off the grid…for reasons.

What did Paulina have to say to Chanel?
When Chanel (Raven Bowens) got to Paulina’s (Jackée Harry), her mom was asleep. Should we believe that? Then, at one point during Paulina and Chanel’s ensuing conversation, it seemed like the mother wanted to say something to her daughter. It felt like she was about to confess something. But then Johnny (Carson Boatman) walked into the room, and her chance disappeared. What did she want to say?
Why did Johnny react to hearing the news so coldly?
You’d think if Johnny had done it, he would have reacted the opposite, so nobody would think he tried to off his father. However, if he suddenly became concerned for his dad, that wouldn’t ring true either. So what conclusion should we draw from Johnny saying that EJ got what he deserved? And did you hear him call his father “EJ”? He seems to be disassociating or disconnecting his feelings and is instead acting cold and unfeeling. That’s a coping mechanism that will only get you so far.
Did EJ have something to do with Rex’s car accident?
Kate had concerns about Rex’s (Kyle Lowder) hit-and-run. She wanted to know if EJ started to get his revenge and engineered her son’s accident. Is that what EJ meant by staying one step ahead, or is he innocent? Did this out-of-nowhere accident seem like a convenient tool meant to throw us off the real killer by giving Kate an even stronger motive for wanting EJ dead?

How did Roman get the gun that he replaced in the lockbox?
This was crazy. We know that Johnny stole the gun out of Roman’s barside lockbox. But towards the end of Thursday’s episode, it was Roman who opened the empty lockbox and put the gun back. What does that mean? Where did he get the gun? Did he find it lying around, or did he catch up to Johnny?
Do you think this could be a Murder on the Orient Express situation?
If you’ve read or seen Murder on the Orient Express, an Agatha Christie creation, Hercule Poirot investigated the murder of a murderer. In the end — spoiler alert — several people on the train banded together to get rid of the bad guy. They were all guilty. Could this be what just happened? Maybe all of EJ’s enemies were in on this together. One of them shot him, and the rest keep the secret. There were so many guns, and the Salem PD isn’t always great at solving crimes. This investigation could go on for a while. The problem is EJ will undoubtedly live, and once he’s away, he could blow them all out of the water. Or he could have selective amnesia, which would serve him right, considering what he did to Rafe (Galen Gering).
What are your first thoughts now that EJ has been shot? What questions do you have? Let us know in the comments.
