A DAYS Photo Tribute To The Late Tyler Christopher

Halloween was a little darker this year after news of the passing of actor Tyler Christopher broke. His time on General Hospital and Days of our Lives left an indelible mark on daytime and made him one of the most unforgettable leading men on soap operas.

Honoring Tyler Christopher

Tyler Christopher passed away on October 31, 2023, just a few days before celebrating his 51st birthday. After a two-decade stint on GH, Christopher joined the cast of DAYS in December 2017 as Stefan O. DiMera, the spawn of the evil Stefano DiMera (the late Joseph Mascolo) and the conniving Vivian Alamain (Louise Sorel). 

The casting thrust the versatile actor onto the Salem scene opposite and smack into the DiMeras’ notorious infighting and scandals. He is the half-brother to EJ, Chad (Billy Flynn), Megan Hathaway (Miranda Wilson), and Andre (Thaao Penghlis), “deceased” (because you never know for sure in Salem) siblings, Benji Hawk (Jim Lunsford), Lexie Carver (Renee Jones), and Renée DuMonde (the late Philece Sampler), and the adoptive brother to Kristen (Stacy Haiduk), Peter (Jason Brooks), and (then) late Tony DiMera (Thaao Penghlis).

Stefan’s presence would rock Salem to its core as he displayed all the dysfunctional signs that run in the DiMera DNA, such as ruthless ambition, scheming, obsession, delusion, charm, and a rarely-seen niceness. His obsession with Abigail (Kate Mansi, Marci Miller) would rival his father’s obsession with Marlena (Deidre Hall). Later, his chemistry with Gabi (Camila Banus) was palpable, though their time together was very brief.

Christopher embodied the complex character, earning his sixth Daytime Emmy nod, his second for Outstanding Lead Actor. Like the character of Nikolas Cassadine on GH, the actor brought Stefan to life and left an impression long after he left the canvas with peers and fans alike.
