Martha Madison’s Heartbreaking Journey: An Inspirational Birthday Wish For Mom

Days of Our Lives (DOOL) star Martha Madison took to Instagram to share a loving tribute and video of her mother on her 66th birthday yesterday.

In the special post, Madison, who played Belle on the show, shared details that some fans may already know. Back in 2008, her mother was diagnosed with a rare, early onset dementia called Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD).

She first started showing signs of the disease 16 years ago, but as with many forms of dementia, getting an exact diagnosis can take a very long time. Madison went on to tell fans about her mother’s fighting spirit and how she’s her hero. The actress has even moved to take care of her mother in recent months.

It’s obvious that Madison has inherited much of her mother’s strength as she continues to fight on for her, working tirelessly to help organizations find a cure so that other families won’t have to go through the same pain as her own.

Many of you know that my Mom suffers from a rare, early onset dementia called Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD). She started having symptoms as early as 16 years ago but was formally diagnosed in 2008. Today is her 66th birthday, and she has outlived every major statistic on record. Although she’s suffered many terrible declines, her tough as nails, take-no-prisoners spirit is still completely intact. She is still in there. In short, she is my hero. Happy Birthday Mom. ❤️ . . . . I’m posting this as an archive for myself and my daughter, but I’m also sharing this in solidarity with so many of you affected by dementia.
