“I loved the 80s,” Steve recently mused on Days of Our Lives (DOOL). And who can blame him?
The 1980s were Salem’s supercouple golden age. Steve (Stephan Nichols) and Kayla (Mary Beth Evans). Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope (Kristian Alfonso). Roman (Wayne Northrop) and Marlena (Deidre Hall).
Who remembers Marlena’s last great romance before John (Drake Hogysten)? Who remembers when Roman didn’t look like Chris Kositchek (Josh Taylor)? Were you a fan of original recipe MaRoman/Romarlena back in the day? Almost 12,000 fans let us know!
Blast From the Past
You’re darn right, we were, 75% of you flashback to the Bradys’ glory days! Roman was exactly who Marlena needed after her marriage to Don (Jed Allen) broke up, following the crib death of their infant son.
He protected her from The Salem Strangler. He stuck by her even after his presumed dead wife, Anna (Leann Hunley), showed up with their daughter, Carrie (then-Andrea Barber) in tow.
Then, Roman died. Tragically – though prettily. (If you’re going to die on a soap, on location is the way to do it.) By the time he returned, with a new face, Marlena had a history with NotRomanJohn, and the glorious couple of the 1980s was kaput. Sigh….
(Well, they did try again with his old face, but that didn’t last long, resulting in turning Sami into who she is today cause her mom cheated on her dad with NotRomanJohn.)
Pass
Nah, 24% dismiss. Marlena and Roman were never to your taste. She’s too self-righteous, and he was too… curly-haired?
You weren’t thrilled with how the Bradys invaded Salem and displaced the Hortons as Salem’s first family. Besides, Marlena and Roman weren’t together nearly as long as John and Marlena.
Who cares if the wedding Marlena recently flashed back to was actually her marrying “Roman.” That couple will never occupy your heart the way Marlena and John have.
And remember, like we said above, Roman and Marlena are who unleashed Sami (Allison Sweeney) on the world…
