Kate Mansi took the role of Abigail Deveraux from wild child to mixed-up mother in her five years on “Days of Our Lives.” As her departure from Salem looms, she looked back on her legacy as a Salem leading lady!
“The common thread for Abby is that she’s incredibly loyal to her family, and that she will be such a fighter for anyone that she loves,” Mansi told a local Southern Florida NBC affiliate.
Mansi and the DAYS writers put their heads together to come up with story progression that would show an appreciation for Abby’s fans and the legacy character’s history. Abby’s grandmother suffered from mental illness, and she and the writers felt it would be “so interesting” to tie Abby’s own story into that. “It was the best experience,” Mansi said of filming her full-circle, final Abby scenes.
“We love it,” Mansi said of her and Billy Flynn’s (Chad) appreciation of fan support. “Something–we don’t even know what it is–has really resonated with them. This heroic, true love, soul mate-type of story.”
When asked what she’ll miss most about working on DAYS, Mansi answered simply, “Everything.” She added that the Salem characters were her family for five years, and she’ll fondly remember those who played them. Mansi gave special recognition to on-screen mom Melissa Reeves (Jennifer). Actress Marci Miller will take over the role of Abby this coming fall.
