It’s a classic Days of Our Lives wedding for Adrienne and Lucas, complete with a surprise interruption: the bride’s ex-husband storms in to break things up.
“I go crazy. It’s old Justin,” says Wally Kurth (Justin). “I think the fans are going to love it.”
Adrienne and Lucas are at the altar ready to get married, when Justin storms in. That is, after he reflects back on his and Adrienne’s courtship and the deep love they’ve shared.
A Mountain of Memories
“I had a series of about 13 flashbacks. I swear, it had be at least five minutes,” recounts Kurth with a laugh. “After all those flashbacks, Justin was like, ‘My God, I want her back.’
I remember reading it all in the script, and it just kept going and going. They have all that old material. They might as well use it.”
In all his years on soaps, Kurth’s never stopped a wedding. So, he was excited to see the turn in the script. “I love The Graduate. That’s an awesome movie,” he notes. “And I’ve never done it before. So it was really fun. Of course, Lucas has every right to be just incensed and deservedly takes a whack at Justin. It’s just really good stuff.”
Totally Clueless
For his part, Lucas had no clue this was coming. “There were no telltale signs of Justin being unhappy about this marriage,” notes Bryan Datillo (Lucas). “Lucas thought he was in the clear. Then, Justin shows up confessing his love and regretting his mistakes… Lucas is quick to verbally shut Justin down. And he’s quick to physically shut him down, which I love.”

Torn Between Past and Present
“Justin and Adrienne are always going to be family. They’re always going to have a connection,” says Judi Evans (Adrienne). “They spent 30 years together. Her whole life has been built around him.
Yes, she’s taken the steps to make this new life with Lucas, but then Justin walks in… And it’s like, ‘Oh God!’ This is what Adrienne wanted Justin to do like two years ago. So it’s a hard moment for her.”
“The fact is Justin and Adrienne have been married and divorced three times,” points out Kurth. “That is a real thing. For that to happen there has to have been problems. There was always something in their relationship that didn’t really work, that wasn’t really there.

The writers have really plumbed that and that Lucas is this person who provides something that Justin doesn’t. Yet, Justin and Adrienne–we have all this history and four sons that they’ve raised. All of that is totally legitimate.”
Adrienne’s Choice
“And Adrienne and Justin have true love,” interjects Evans, noting that Adrienne “is completely torn. She’ll always love Justin. Always. And there’s part of her that’s always going to be in love with him, too. But there have been problems and she’s had to move on. Now she’s happy, but…”
“So she has to choose,” says Kurth. “It’s a great dilemma and a wonderful story.”
Lucky for Adrienne, Sonny is there to comfort her, and he comes up with a way to help his mother solve her romantic dilemma.
