Fans were in a tizzy trying to figure out why in the world Days of Our Lives (DOOL) hero John would turn on best friend and try to kill him. Now we know. And we wish we didn’t.
After Steve (Stephen Nichols) caught John (Drake Hogestyn) red-handed with a syringe and Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) and Marlena (Deidre Hall) entered the room, there was no more hiding it. John revealed that he was the one who had poisoned Steve – on orders from the head of the ISA.
It turned out that Paula VanDamme was livid at Steve for allowing Joey to confess to killing Ava. After all, she worked hard to help him with a cover story about him being the one to kill Ava and now everyone would soon know that wasn’t the truth.
She wanted Steve and his family eliminated so they couldn’t testify against her and she wanted John to do the deed. So why didn’t John refuse? Because he knew that someone else would be brought in and he might not be able to save them if that happened.
If that sounds a little cockamamie to you, you’re not alone. Did she really give this grand plan any thought? Would she then kill John because he knew the truth? She already threatened to kill his entire family if he didn’t go through with it.
How many people had to die to cover up a simple case of low-level corruption that most courts of law may have understood a spy agency doing for the greater good of one of its agents?
These are ISA agents, sworn to help save people – they aren’t supposed to be the bad guys. Did she really think all of her agents would turn bad on her beckoning? And if so, what were they even worth if that’s the case?
Days of Our Lives has been great this last half year but this story leaves us at Soap Hub scratching our heads. While we applaud John finally getting a story – this wasn’t the one we were hoping to see.
