After 42 years on soaps, John Aniston picked up his first-ever Daytime Emmy nomination today. The beloved veteran actor got the nod in the Outstanding Supporting Actor category.
Aniston began his soap career in 1975 on the now-defunct Love of Life and moved onto Search for Tomorrow in 1979. He created the role of Victor Kiriakis on Days of Our Lives (DOOL) in 1985 and has played the role ever since.
Victor had his first major story in years in 2016 when his never-before-heard-of brother Deimos arrived in town (played by Vincent Irizarry, another nominee this year).
However, that just meant more of Victor’s wry wit than ever, as he’s typically been a one-man Greek chorus commenting on everything in Salem for years. But he also had to be a rock for wife Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) and was in on Theresa’s (Jen Lilley) reasons for leaving his grandson.
If Aniston takes home the gold, he and daughter, Jennifer (yes, that Jennifer) will have matching statuettes as she won an Emmy for her role as Rachel on Friends in 2002.
Another DAYS vet who picked up only his third nomination was James Reynolds, who has played Abe since 1981. Reynolds took a brief Salem break to star on Generations, when he got his first Emmy nod in the lead actor category. His last nomination in 2004 was for supporting actor like this year’s.
