Jensen Ackles is best known for starring as Dean Winchester on the hit CW show Supernatural for over 10 years — a series that is actually in its final season. But, he also started his career on a soap.
Ackles has also appeared on shows such as Dawson’s Creek, Smallville, and Dark Angel. From where he was born and raised to working on a film with his dad, here are five fast facts about the actor.
Ackles was born on March 1 in Dallas, Texas and was raised with his brother Josh and sister Mackenzie. He got into modeling at a very young age, but he had planned on studying sports medicine at Texas Tech University in order to become a physical therapist. However, he decided to forgo school and move to Los Angeles to pursue acting instead.
Soap Beginnings
After moving out to L.A., Ackles was cast as Eric Brady on NBC’s Days of Our Lives, where the character had a hot and heavy romance with Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker). He was nominated for three Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series.
Real Life vs. Reel Life
Ackles’s father, Alan Ackles, is also an actor and the pair got to work together in a movie called Devour, which came out in 2005. They even got to play father-and-son in the movie, so it made the experience even more poignant.
Ackles co-owns a brewery in Dripping Springs, Texas called Family Business Beer Company. The brewery is named after a reference in Supernatural, as “family business” is a tagline for the show.
