Abe Carver’s life on Days of Our Lives somehow became trapped between two wedding albums while everybody waits for a decision he doesn’t want to make. Lexie is back from the dead, Paulina is trying to step aside even though it is destroying her, and Abe looks like a man who doesn’t want to choose. Now, James Reynolds and Jackée Harry are opening up about why this storyline has become so emotionally brutal for everybody involved.

Key Takeaways

  • James Reynolds said Paulina’s compassion makes Abe’s situation even harder emotionally.
  • Jackée Harry said Paulina refuses to give up on Abe without a fight.
  • Paulina believes Abe has been led astray by his own ethics.
  • Reynolds said Abe deeply loves both Paulina and Lexie, but is emotionally torn between the two women.
  • Harry and Reynolds agreed that somebody will inevitably end up hurt by Abe’s choice.

Paulina Refuses To Walk Away Quietly

James Reynolds and Jackée Harry spoke to Soaps about Abe’s impossible situation, and Reynolds made it clear that Paulina’s compassion makes it even harder. “It’s tough, but Paulina actually makes it easier,” he explained. “Her depth of love and compassion for Abe is so deep that she’s willing to go against her own self-interest.” Which is lovely in theory and emotionally devastating in practice.

Harry admitted Paulina already feels as if she may have lost him. She blamed it on Abe’s ethics taking control, though that doesn’t mean Paulina plans to politely disappear into the wallpaper while Abe sorts out his feelings between wife and resurrected wife. When asked if Paulina would fight for him, Harry immediately answered, “Heck yeah,” before adding with a laugh, “And she’s thirsty!”

That energy is honestly what keeps this triangle from turning into pure misery. Paulina is heartbroken, but she is not surrendering. Harry explained, “She has pride as any woman does. She’s not gonna play hard to get. It’s not gonna be easy, but she’s fighting for him.”

Abe Can’t Make Everybody Happy

Reynolds also spoke about how deeply Abe loves both women, which is exactly why he looks emotionally exhausted whenever someone enters the room. “It’s just pure luck,” Reynolds said about finding somebody as devoted as Paulina. But then reality obliterates the situation five seconds later because Lexie (Nikki Crawford) is not just some old girlfriend wandering back into town with unresolved feelings and a dramatic haircut. She’s the love of Abe’s life who literally came back from the dead.

That tension exploded even more after Abe admitted to EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) that Lexie was his “great love,” which is not exactly the sort of sentence that helps stabilize your current marriage. Harry immediately reacted with “Ooh!” when asked whether Abe could actually keep everyone happy, while Reynolds bluntly admitted, “We didn’t talk about happiness!”

And honestly, that feels like the real story now. Abe loves Paulina. Abe loves Lexie. But this stopped being about romance the second everybody involved realized somebody was going to walk away shattered, no matter what happens next.
