It looks like Days of our Lives head writer Ron Carlivati was completely serious when he pursued funny lady Jackée Harry on Twitter to come play in Salem because the former daytime star (she was on Another World back in the 1980s) just announced she’s joining the NBC soap!
The Emmy-winning actress (for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series on 227) was on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna Tuesday when she made the surprising announcement that she would be joining the soap. “I’m going to be joining the cast of a big, big soap opera on NBC — Days of our Lives,” as the show’s theme song came on with a flourish, including digital confetti dropping down as the two hosts cheered.
She was asked about her role and while Harry wasn’t able to reveal too much, she did tease it a bit. “Oh, she’s fabulous. I have to play a fabulous woman, you know that. But I don’t want to give away storyline because it’s a brand new storyline with the African-Americans and they’re big at the forefront of hiring minorities. They have a lot of diversity on Days of our Lives.
“So I don’t want to give away the storyline,” she continued, “but I have a daughter. And you know there ain’t nothing but trouble in River City. But I’m told I’ll be fabulous.” The actress then reminded them she got her start on Another World, where she played Lily Mason from 1983-1986.
Will they be bringing on her daughter as well or could she be a recast of Lani’s (Sal Stowers) mother, Tamara, originally played by Marilyn McCoo? That remains to be seen. Last January, Carlivati tweeted a meme of Harry on Family Feud with “Name something you must have in order to live:” and he wrote above it, “A part on @nbcdays? #days @JackeeHarry”
It looks like he got his wish! Stay tuned! Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
