Charlie is a rapist on Days of our Lives. So is Jack (Matthew Ashford). John (Drake Hogysten) is an assassin. Steve (Stephen Nichols) is a drug-dealing thug. Nicole (Arienne Zucker) is a kidnapper. So is Xander (Paul Telfer). Doug (Bill Hayes) is a con artist. Gabi (Camila Banus) and Abigail (Marci Miller) are killers. Ben (Robert Scott Wilson) is a serial killer. And Kristen (Stacy Haiduk)… oh, good lord, Kristen.
So, really, Charlie is practically a wannabe. Should he be redeemed like all the rest? What almost 2,000 viewers have to say:
A majority 76% of the audience voted that all of the above still had some good in them. But no, not Charlie (Mike Manning). Nope. Charlie is too far gone to ever be forgiven or reformed. When Jack raped Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) he was different. He was… uh… he was… taller? Richer? His crazy parent was his dad, not his mom?
And when E.J. (James Scott) blackmailed Sami (Alison Sweeney) into sleeping with him by putting Lucas’s (Bryan Dattilo) life on the line, he was much, much taller. And more British. Charlie is short. And he only committed his crime in England. He doesn’t speak with their cool accent, or anything. Jack and E.J. were worth redeeming. Charlie is not.
A smaller 24% of you not only want redemption to take place, you expect it. Not just because of all of the above precedents, but because, well, how to put this tactfully? Salem is a roiling, bubbling cauldron of inbreeding. Practically every single character under the age of 30 is related to practically every other one. Sometimes in more than one way. They desperately need some new blood.
Charlie isn’t a Horton, a Brady, a Kiriakis, or a Johnson. He is desperately needed. Which is why he must be redeemed. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
