Impeachment Update: How You Can See Thursday’s Soap Operas

The impeachment hearings in the House of Representatives dominated the day again, but not all soap operas were completely preempted.

Soap Operas Preempted Again

On the East Coast, CBS aired nearly half of The Young and the Restless during a recess in Congress, but the West Coast got the entire episode. The entirety of the show should be on CBS All Access later tonight.

The Bold and the Beautiful was fully preempted and CBS has confirmed via tweet that it will be delayed a day and today’s episode will air tomorrow.

Days of Our Lives was also fully pre-empted, but it will be on the NBC app and NBC.com tonight, as well as aired late in some markets.

Surprisingly, ABC did not air the second part of the hearings and General Hospital aired in its entirety in all markets.

Today seemed to end the public portion of the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump unless the House schedules more hearings. However, our soap operas may be disrupted in January should Articles of Impeachment be drawn up and the Senate holds a trial. Soap Hub will keep you informed as we know more about soap preemptions.

Soap opera began in the early 1900s, as radio broadcasts. Soap companies were behind the conception of the daytime dramas because they wanted to sell soaps to stay-at-home-moms. They did their job and also launched a lifelong programming format, the soap opera.

Spanning more than nine decades, American sudsers have seen the rise and fall of daytime soaps. In the heyday of soaps in the early 1980s, there were up to 13 different soap operas broadcast. However, over the years, the number has declined. Currently, there are only four American soap operas on the air. They include Days of our Lives (DAYS), General Hospital (GH), The Young and the Restless (YR), The Bold and the Beautiful (BB).
