When Drake Hogestyn played a nameless pawn on Days Of Our Lives (DOOL), fans loved him. When he decided he was Roman Brady, fans loved him. When the real Roman Brady returned and it turned out he was John Black, they loved him.
Same goes for Forrest Alamain, an illegitimate Brady/DiMera related to Shirley Partridge, or emotionless Robo-John. Fans just loved him.
So where has John been the last few months?
Hogestyn has been recovering from an on-set head injury, but the show itself has been pretty vague about why John hasn’t been romancing Marlena (Deidre Hall), checking in on Belle (Martha Madison), helping Brady (Eric Marstolf) with his hunt for Nicole (Arianne Zucker), remembering Paul (Christopher Sean) exists or dealing with being a grandfather to teenage Claire (Olivia Rose Keegan).
But, do fans miss his presence in Salem on a daily basis? Here’s what over 10,000 strong of you had to say!
Bring Back Our John!
It was no contest. Not even close. A whopping 89% of the audience demands to see John back in Salem – yesterday.
After all, you never know when you might need a businessman-cop-mercenary-art smuggler-Army doctor-priest to do…something. And who else do you know in town who can fit that entire bill? Not to mention emote with his eyebrows like nobody’s business.
Stay Away
Of course, there is no such thing as a unanimous vote, so, naturally, 11% of viewers dissented. If the show can survive Sami (Allison Sweeney) taking off for parts unknown, Bo’s (Peter Reckell) death, and Stefano’s (Joseph Mascolo) flight from justice, it can survive without John and his unending identity crises.
Marlena, Belle, Paul, and Claire seem to be doing fine without him. Also, Roman (Josh Taylor), Abe (James Reynolds) and Steve (Stephan Nichols) have crime more or less under-control. John can remain off-screen doing whatever he’s been doing. We’re good.
