It was an undignified end to a short but eventful stint on Days of Our Lives (DOOL), and now actor Greg Rikaart has some parting words about his con-artist character.
In his last episode, we learned he wasn’t even Leo Stark but instead was a former prostitute and con artist named Matthew. To pay tribute to that reveal, Rikaart tweet out a final goodbye on social media.
The actor sent took to social media to say, “RIP dear, kind, sweet Matthew. May you have heartier skull bones in the afterlife then you had here in this life. #Days”
That was in direct reference to the way his character died. When Will (Chandler Massey) unmasked Leo’s nefarious ways to his ex-husband, Sonny (Freddie Smith) ended the shortest engagement in history and told Leo they were over.
Leo lost it when he realized he was going to be out the Kiriakis millions and he attacked Will in the worst way possible — strangling him like Ben (Robert Scott Wilson) had done years ago, which almost killed him.
Well, it actually did kill him — he was just brought back to life.
Well, it doesn’t look like Leo (or Matthew) will be that lucky. Seeing the man he loves being attacked, Sonny stepped in and threw his tormenter across the room, landing him square on a corner of the fireplace, which ended up killing him, putting a stop his reign of terror on Sonny once and for all.
OK, well not once and for all — now Sonny and Will have to worry about going to prison for his death. In the meantime, Rikaart is free to move on now that his Salem gig has wrapped up. His final farewell was pretty funny and a fitting end to a controversial character.
