The Best Intentions Can Lead To the Worst
It should surprise no one that Gabi (Cherie Jimenez) decided to use her money, power, and pressure to get Liam (Hank Northrop) away from Ari (Vico Escorcia). Gabi didn’t just offer Liam a huge chunk of change; she also promised to make sure his plea deal stayed intact and that he could be with his parents and son.
The fact that Gabi went to Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) for help speaks volumes. Gabi played the Ari card, filling Julie in on what had happened between Liam and Ari, and Julie agreed to help.
Aside from the fact that Gabi and Julie teaming up is just a bad idea, Gabi sending Liam away at this time will do damage to Ari, who is already suffering because of Sophia’s (Rachel Boyd) death. Ari has struggled following the loss of Sophia and feels guilty about it, too. If Liam really does leave, it could send her spiraling.
Gabi isn’t thinking about Ari’s mental health. Even after she had to convince Ari to attend Sophia’s memorial, it hasn’t clicked with Gabi that losing Liam will hurt her daughter, not help her.
If Liam leaves, which we don’t think he will, Ari is headed for another heartbreak. On top of Sophia “killing” herself, it will be too much for Ari, and that means trouble for her and Gabi. Imagine how Gabi will feel if something bad happens to Ari because Liam’s leaving pushed her too far.
The flipside is that Ari will learn the truth and probably sooner rather than later. Julie can and likely will turn on Gabi in a heartbeat, which would lead to Ari learning that Gabi bribed Liam.
Another scenario is that Liam is setting up Gabi so he can spill all to Ari. Liam may not even be considering leaving town, but wants Ari to know the great lengths her mother will go to keep them apart. This could be to keep Ari away from him or to bring her closer to him.
One thing is for sure. Bribery in the soap world never works, and Gabi’s in for a world of hurt because of her actions, regardless of whether Liam stays or leaves Salem.
