Ben’s explosive revelation that Will is alive brought Paul and Sonny’s wedding day to a screeching halt on Days of Our Lives (DOOL), so, what happens next?
Confusion, torn feelings and the beginning of a major triangle, reveal the two grooms. Namely, actors Freddie Smith (Sonny) and Christopher Sean (Paul)
Recipe for Drama
“This is a level 10 on the complication scale,” says Sean.
“Someone’s back from the dead. As actors, you want that triangle, 100%,” adds Smith. “It’s one of the biggest parts of drama on a soap opera. And it came at a really good time. Weddings are a high peak of emotion. To add in that Will (Chandler Massey) may be alive makes it incredible. It’s a great recipe for drama.”
A Man with a Choice
Sonny, the man in the middle of it all, will find himself faced with some major soul searching and choices.
“It’s the most emotional tug of war Sonny has every lived through,” notes Smith. “How is he going to handle it? How are the other people in the situation going to handle it? That’s what’s going to make for great TV. It’s also going to challenge the characters and their relationships. And we’re going to see where the true love really lies.”
Getting to the Truth
As for Paul, hearing Ben’s (Robert Scott Wilson) declaration about Will, evokes a myriad of emotions.
“Disbelief, anger, shock…” says Sean. “Paul thinks, ‘How is Will alive?’ It doesn’t make sense to him. Paul’s going to battle that for many, many episodes.”
To prove or dispel Ben’s words and help Sonny get the answers he needs, Paul comes up with an idea: exhuming Will’s body. However, Justin (Wally Kurth) informs the twosome that there’s a legal issue. They need to obtain permission from Lucas (Brian Dattilo).
Fighting for Love
PI Paul will be actively involved in ascertaining the truth, while trying to hold onto the man he loves.
“[This storyline] really puts Paulson in the ring,” contends Sean. “They’re going to have to fight for each other, fight for their love, fight to find out how much of [what Ben says is] true and how much of it is the rantings of a crazy person.”
Meanwhile, Sonny “is just trying to figure out where his heart is,” notes Smith. “He loves two people. Before it was okay, because Will wasn’t there, so Sonny was able to love him, but move on with Paul. It wasn’t a mutual breakup, Will was murdered. Now that Will’s back it’s like, Sonny has first love (Paul) and his soulmate (Will). So what does he do?”
Sonny: The End Game
As the storyline progresses, will viewers see the usually saintly Paul somewhat bend his code of honor as he fights to hang onto the man he loves?
“It’s definitely one of those things that when you are passionate about something, you will fight for it,” adds Sean. “You’re going to do everything you can to make sure you can keep that particular person or thing in your life.
“For Paul, it’s Sonny. His everything is Sonny. He’s going to do everything he can to make sure that everything is tilted in his favor. He’s going to do everything he can to make sure Sonny stays in his life… All’s fair in love and war.”
