Last week, Freddie Smith and Chandler Massey revealed that they had been let go from Days of our Lives and on February 13, the two appeared Smith’s podcast that he does with fiancée Alyssa Tabit — and they did not hold back.
Freddie Smith and Chandler Massey Speak Out
Smith and Tabit have had their podcast for a while, covering any number of topics and often with interviews with Smith’s DAYS co-stars, but this time was different. This time, after being a cheerleader for the show for so long, he and co-star Massey were brutally honest about their dismissal from the show and how they found out.
After dealing with DAYS’ two-month taping hiatus, they were excited when the scripts began to arrive, having been told they’d do about six episodes over three weeks. But it didn’t take long before the two noticed a direction that it was taking. “Yeah, it just didn’t look good,” shared Smith (Sonny).
They were actually together at the time the sixth script was delivered. They read the episode and both were stunned by what they read. “I was truly shocked. I kept thinking surely something will change,” remarked Massey (Will). The two stars knew that however that sixth episode ended would give them an idea of what’s going on.
Is This The End?
Smith then re-enacted how they were, flipping to the last page of the script to see what happened. The verdict? Not good. Neither actor wanted to reveal story points. Their respect for their characters’ journeys, as well as for DAYS remains as strong as ever. In fact, the actors spent some time discussing what the future may bring for both Will and Sonny.
The two are so proud of their characters, they mulled over ideas of what to do if it becomes impossible for them both to return (like if one gets a job and is unable to return). They know they want to create something for the fans to give them more closure. Of course, that might not be necessary.
Days of our Lives often brings people back. Look at Alison Sweeney who plays Massey’s mom, Sami. She comes back for short arcs periodically. But if that doesn’t happen, they still want to create something for the fans.
To find out more about that and so many other things the pair discussed, watch the entire podcast below. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
