He has played Steve ‘Patch’ Johnson on Days of Our Lives, Stefan Cassadine on General Hospital, and Tucker McCall on The Young and the Restless over the course of his career but Stephen Nichols has also appeared on television shows such as Matlock, LA: Law, and The Nanny.
We love watching his work on television and the big screen, but his personal life is just as interesting! From his spiritual journey to becoming a grandfather, here are five fast facts you need to know about veteran soap star, Stephen Nichols.
In The Beginning
Nichols was born on February 19 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was offered an art scholarship to attend Ohio State University, but he ultimately turned it down so he could pack up and move out to Los Angeles.
Spiritual Journey
After turning down a college scholarship, Nichols moved out west — not to become an actor but to study yoga and live with monks. He cooked vegetarian meals for them and even took a vow of celibacy for three years. Nichols decided being a monk was not his path and started studying acting at the Theater Academy of Los Angeles City College.
Theater Veteran
Once he got into theater, Nichols began appearing in many shows throughout Los Angeles. He won three Drama-Logue Awards and two LA Weekly Theater Awards for his work in shows like Pieces of Time, Delirious, and The Lizard King.
Film Appearances
Along with his work on television and stage, Nichols has also appeared in movies such as Choices, which starred Demi Moore (before she appeared on GH as Jackie), Witchboard, Soapdish, Heaven’s Tears, Cover Me, and Phoenix. Nichols has also gotten into directing and has directed stage productions, shorts, and feature films.
Getting Personal
Nichols is married to Lisa Gordon and the couple has three children together — son Aaron, and daughters Vanessa and Dylan. All of his children have appeared on DAYS. Nichols is also a proud grandfather. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
