Lamon Archey currently plays Eli Grant on Days of Our Lives, but the star didn’t always know he wanted to be an actor. Though he’s appeared on other shows, like The Young and the Restless and 2 Broke Girls, his journey to getting on television wasn’t necessarily easy.
Along with his acting credits, Archey has had a number of odd jobs throughout his life. From where he was born and raised to landing his first TV gig, here are five fast facts about the Days of Our Lives actor.
In The Beginning
Archey was born on April 9 and raised in San Mateo, California. He was actually raised by his grandparents, as he didn’t have much of a relationship with his father. Sadly, his father passed away when he was just 20. Archey played sports in high school and didn’t get into acting until later.
Different Career Path
Right after high school, Archey began working as a carpenter and he installed floors for two years. He was then was scouted at a job fair by a modeling agency, which convinced him to move to Los Angeles. While in Los Angeles, he worked as an emergency medical technician for close to 10 years.
Took Some Convincing
After moving to Los Angeles, Archey began booking different modeling gigs. He modeled for big designers and department stores like Macy’s, Kohl’s, and Giorgio Armani. He also appeared in a few commercials, which landed him an agent and manager. His manager, Michael Bruno, steered him towards working on a soap.
First Soap
In 2012, he was cast in the recurring role of Mason Wilder on The Young and the Restless. He played this role for two years, where his character became involved with Hilary (Mishael Morgan) but then got a role on Days of Our Lives in 2016.
Getting Personal
Archey began dating model and actress Mercedes Cornett in 2006. They had met a few years earlier, but it took some time for them to take things to the next level. They got engaged in 2010.
The gorgeous couple has two children together — a 10-year-old son named Caden and a 7-year-old daughter named Gaia. Archey also has another child, a 16-year-old son named Machiah, from a previous relationship. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
