Galen Gering currently stars as Rafe Hernandez on Days Of Our Lives, but he is also very well-known for playing Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald on Passions. Along with his acting career, Gering even starred on a reality show with his family called Dirty Soaps.
Gering has cemented himself as an actor, but that wasn’t necessarily his first career choice. From the job he pursued first to his athletic talent, here are five fast facts you need to know about Gering!
In The Beginning…
Gering was born in Los Angeles, California to creative parents. His mother was an artist and his father was a sculptor. His parents decided to give him a Greek name because they wanted something a little different. Gering has revealed his family lived on macaroni and cheese and Top Ramen while he was growing up.
Model Behavior
Gering moved to New York City when he was 18 to pursue a career in modeling. In fact, he left high school early in order to work professionally. He traveled all around Europe and even managed to walk in fashion shows like those for Valentino and Armani. He then attended NYU for a year before finishing up school at the University of Miami.
Athletic Talents
Along with being a talented actor, Gering is also passionate about volleyball. He used to play Pro-Am beach volleyball, which makes sense because he grew up in Los Angeles and went to school in Miami. Plus, he’s 6’2! Though he doesn’t play competitively anymore, he does play for fun every once and awhile.
Animal Lover
Gering has two pups named Wyle and Bandit. He loves animals so much he works with a charity called New Leash For Life. This non-profit training program saves the lives of shelter dogs and also teaches incarcerated inmates how to take care of and train dogs. The charity not only helps the lives of the dogs, but it also improves the lives of people in prison.
Let’s Get Personal
Gering and his long-time girlfriend, Jenna Hudlett, eloped in 2000 at the Graceland Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. They actually kept their marriage a secret until they had a wedding ceremony with their family and friends a few months later. The couple has two sons together — 13-year-old Dillon Phoenix and 11-year-old Jensen.
