All hell broke loose on Days of Our Lives when Eric, finally armed with the truth about what Brady did to him, confronted his brother with devastating consequences.
We’ve all been waiting for it ever since Brady (Eric Martsolf) seemingly lost his mind over Nicole’s (Arianne Zucker) betrayal banished her to parts unknown. It was hard to reconcile hot mess, gullible Brady with the monster he became.
But in some ways, who could blame him? He’d had his heart broken by betrayal time after time after time. The last one — by a woman who had been his best friend and whom he gave up his life and took a bullet for — seemed to be the hardest blow of all.
The fact that saintly (and former Father-still-stepbrother) Eric was the one she betrayed him with cut even deeper. Yet, when Eric learned the truth from Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) and headed straight to Brady to confront him, he conveniently ignored his part in Brady’s monstrous turn to the Dark Side.
Brady tried to explain how what Nicole did broke him. While it’s understandable that Eric is only capable of seeing his pain and what he lost in all of this, at some point he needs to remember that he didn’t give a damn about Brady when he crawled back into bed with Nicole.
Of course, Nicole isn’t blameless in all of this either. If she wanted to reunite with Eric, she should have ended things with Brady first. Needless to say, there’s enough blame to go around with all three players in this story.
Still, it was amazingly satisfying to see Eric finally stand up for himself. While he isn’t blameless, he does have every right to be furious at Brady. And, he said some pretty horrible things, telling Brady that he’s pathetic and they’re no longer brothers.
Afterward, Eric almost took a drink. While that would have been coming full circle, it’s a relief they didn’t take him in that direction. Eric has come so far since that fateful night he got behind the wheel of a car drunk Daniel. If he wants to win Nicole back, he needs to keep his wits about him.
As hard as it was to see the two brothers fighting, this was great drama and what soaps are made of. The next step is the search for Nicole… and not a moment too soon!
