Days of our Lives fans have been wondering about the show’s future in light of a recent People.com report that the show would be ending later this year to make way for an NBC talk show headlined by Megyn Kelly.
The soon-to-be former Fox news reporter rose to greater fame during the last presidential campaign and it was recently announced that after a 12-year run at Fox, she’s now moving over to NBC.
Soap Hub caught up with NBC Entertainment president, Jennifer Salke, and she gave us her thoughts on the future of the 51-year-old soap, the last remaining daytime drama on NBC.
“We haven’t decided yet, but we are optimistic,” Salke exclusively told Soap Hub about a renewal for the long-running NBC soap opera.
Note: Salke used the very same word – “optimistic” – a year ago regarding the likelihood of DAYS being renewed and it was, so it’s a good sign that DAYS will continue past this year.
At least one savvy DAYS star who wished to remain anonymous is also hopeful that the stories in Salem will continue.
When we referenced the People report, she told Soap Hub: “I saw that too and looked into it. I feel like I didn’t see anything legitimate.”
DAYS current contract calls for episodes to air through this coming September.
