Since he’s a father, how hard was it to play those scenes with Lani (Sal Stowers) losing their child? Archey remarked that with his children, he bonded with them after they were born, so for Eli, he had to “dig a little deeper because I didn’t have that connection right away.”
It was a great point, because as he said the mother carries the child for nine months but the father gets to bond with the child after birth. So finding that sadness in Eli for those scenes was challenging. There’s another father/son relationship he would like to explore.
“I always thought since they’re bringing back everybody else… get David [Banning] out of the casket and have him be alive in some way. What could they bring up for Eli finally getting to meet his dad and finding out that he wasn’t actually dead? What could come from that.”
After all, it was a closed casket and he died off-screen. It would certainly rock Eli’s world and could be an exciting thing to have happen for many characters in Salem.
For those worried that sightings of Eli in Salem have been scarce lately, Archey tells fans not to worry. “He will be back full-force very soon and you’ll be seeing a lot more Eli.”
When asked if that would include a romance with Lani, Archey was quick to point out that she is still in mourning — and of course she had that strong bond with JJ (Casey Moss).
What about Gabi (Camila Banus)? She’s currently headed down an evil path. “You never know what’s going to happen in the future.”
So, who does he think was the best woman for Eli? Archey proved to be ever the diplomat. “I honestly want what the fans want,” he said, hedging his bet smartly. After all, both of the women he’s been with have their own fanbase.
One thing he definitely had an opinion on was who he’d like to work with that he hasn’t had much of a chance with yet. “I’ve had one or two lines with John Aniston [Victor]. But I would like scenes with him. I like that guy. He’s really cool.”
So is there any couple on the show he finds himself rooting for? “I’m caught up in the whole Ben and Ciara story. I like the CIN story.”
