Eve Jumps The MeToo Of Sharks on Days of Our Lives

There are a lot of things that can be said about Eve on Days of Our Lives — and most of them aren’t that nice. She’s caused problems for any number of characters, played dirty tricks, schemed against our faves, but what she said to Justin on Wednesday’s episode was her lowest moment.

Angry at Jack (Matthew Ashford) for breaking her heart, Eve (Kassie DePaiva) wanted to hit back and told Justin (Wally Kurth) that Jack raped her — which was a lie. Some newer viewers may not see an issue with that. After all, Eve’s a villainess and would do anything to get what she wants, right?

Eve isn’t a cartoon villain. She’s been through a lot herself. When she was younger, she thought a boy named Harris (played by a pre-General Hospital Steve Burton) really liked her, only to learn he thought she’d be easy to score with because of her hooker past.

Finding that out almost broke Eve — she swallowed a ton of pills, trying to end her life. She eventually went on to live a full life, have a daughter — who was eventually murdered by Ben (Robert Scott Wilson). She has been destroyed emotionally and gotten back up.

“Crying rape” is not some cheap device that a woman holds in her back pocket for an emergency. It’s a heinous act that, as Justin (Justin?!) pointed out, makes it harder for real victims to be believed. Eve was just the police commissioner! Sure, she had zero credentials for it, but still!

She’s furious that Jack dumped her but she gleefully broke the vials that held the memory-return solution in them. What did she think he’d do? Thank her? It’s hard to take her heartbreak seriously.

She used Jack as a weapon of revenge against Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) for we’re not even sure what at this point. (A high school rivalry? Telling Brady she screwed his custody case?) This desire to get revenge like her heart is broken makes no sense.

We get it. Eve’s a villain. But to loosely quote the grandmother of soaps, Irna Philips, soap characters aren’t supposed to be black or white — they have shades of grey.

Eve used to have shades but this latest move, no matter how incredibly acted by DePaiva (who deserves better), has Eve seriously jumping the shark. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
