Days of our Lives is a very inbred place. Between the Hortons, the Bradys, the Kiriakises, and the DiMeras, everyone has been married to everybody else and, as a result, practically everybody is their own cousin.

Days of our Lives: A Bad Tripp Away

Setting up a new, young romantic pairing is very hard when you first have to draw a family tree at least three generations back. Which is why writing out Tripp Johnson (Lucas Adams) is a mistake on multiple levels.

DAYS Leading Man

First and foremost, Tripp is a great character. Sure, he came on all vengeful and murdery — kind of like his mother, Ava Vitale (Tamara Braun). But that gave him a nice, dark edge, and a redemption arc. Tripp grew to love his long-lost dad, Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols), and stepmother, Kayla Brady Johnson (Mary Beth Evans).

He mellowed out so much that he not only forgave Allie Horton (Lindsay Arnold) for falsely accusing him of rape, viewers were afraid he might forgive her for cheating on him with Chanel Dupree (Raven Bowens), too. Tripp ultimately didn’t — even though he was willing to be possessed by the Devil in order to save Allie’s life. What a guy! Why would you get rid of a guy like that?

Days of our Lives Blood Ties

But the best reason to keep Tripp on the canvas is that he isn’t related to as many people as others in his age group are. His only siblings are Stephanie and Joey Johnson, and both of them aren’t even currently living in Salem.

What do you think? Post a comment!

His cousins are the newly dead Abigail Deveraux DiMera (Marci Miller), the equally absent JJ, and the happily married so not available Sonny Kiriakis (Zach Tinker). Everyone else is fair game! (Heck, he’s not even biologically related to Sonny’s three adopted brothers!)

DAYS could use more young love stories. Tripp could have been the centerpiece of so many. Instead, he’s being bid bon voyage!
