Victoria Konefal will forever have the words “Daytime Emmy winner” in her biography courtesy of her win in the Outstanding Younger Performer in a Drama Series category for her role as Ciara Brady Weston on Days of our Lives. Due to production constraints, her speech had to be pre-taped. Soap Hub reached out to the actress to get her additional thoughts on her victory, which include a special message for her devoted fans.
Soap Hub: What did you think of this year’s ceremony being a bit more interactive than last year’s?
Victoria Konefal: [The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and Associated Television International] did a great job at bringing it to life given the COVID-19 restrictions we still must follow. We got to dress up for the carpet and celebrate with a select group of peers, which was really special. Last year, everything was conducted at home so I am grateful for this glimmer of reality we got to partake in.
Your dress was stunning; how did you come to choose it?
Thank you so much! My incredible manager Courtney and I spent all day looking through showrooms and couldn’t find anything that was “the one.” We actually found this gown at the last showroom we went to, Pol Atteu Haute Couture. It was the first gown I tried and, once I stepped out of the dressing room, we looked at each other as if to say, “Yup. This is it. The search is over.” We knew it was special and it matched my personality.
Who were you with when you watched the show and your win?
I was lucky enough to celebrate with my sister, my closest friends, and my team. The Huntley Hotel in Santa Monica gifted me a suite for the weekend and we threw together a little viewing party. I was surrounded by love from every direction and I couldn’t have asked for anything more special.
What were the pluses of seeing the show at home? At an in-person event, you might get one or three guests…at home, you can be with as many as you want.
I absolutely love this aspect of it! It made the whole evening so much more personal, and quite frankly, far more enjoyable than if I were at a live ceremony. I was surrounded by those who are most important to me and I had a chance to celebrate on my terms. I ended up taking a dip in the ocean in my gown afterward which was one of the highlights of the evening. I would have never been able to do that if the traditional ceremony had been conducted.
Was there anyone else you’d like to add to your acceptance speech?
The only thing I would have liked to add but couldn’t [say at the time] due to time constraints is speaking out on sexual assault. My character is a sexual assault survivor, and I’ve had a few fans bring to my attention that my performances surrounding that topic were cathartic for them. I would like to thank them for their unwavering support, and I would like to let them know how strong and beautiful I think they are. They are powerful and I see them. I hear them, and they are not alone in this world no matter how lonely they may feel sometimes.
