Billy Flynn was once the new kid on the block when he joined the cast of Days of our Lives back in 2014. Now, he is rolling out the welcome mat to DAYS “newcomer” Zach Tinker, who is coming to the NBC soap opera as Sonny Kiriakis.
Billy Flynn Interviews DAYS’ New Sonny
Zach Tinker actually debuted as Sonny last year in the peacock limited series Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem and reprised the role again in Days of our Lives: A Very Salem Christmas. Now, he’s making his debut on the daily serial that airs on NBC. Recently, Flynn interviewed the show newcomer on how he came to be cast in the role and much more!
Tinker explained that he, like many actors, did much of his auditioning over the web and via Zoom given COVID-19 safety protocols. “It was not too bad of a process,” the actor explains. Asked about his appearances on the peacock DAYS content in 2021, Tinker said, “They were fun! Now that I’m on the ‘mother ship’ show, it’s a very different experience.”

Boarding the DAYS Mother Ship
Now, that he’s on DAYS, Zach Tinker expects to be able to delve further into Sonny’s psyche. What’s his take on the Kiriakis heir? “[He] is very multi-faceted,” he says of Sonny. “He’s an emotional guy who tries to do the right thing. He’s prone to jealousy. He’s a good dude.”
Zach Tinker’s Famous Grandfather
Tinker’s not the first member of his family to work at NBC. His late grandfather, Grant Tinker, was CEO and Chairman, NBC from 1981 to 1986. Also, his grandfather was once wed to the late Mary Tyler Moore. He passed away in 2016 at the age of 90. Zach Tinker’s not the only member of the famous family to enter show business, but he has taken a unique path. “A lot of people in my family are in production,” he says. “I was the only one who was like, ‘Let me be in front of the camera!’ It all comes full circle.”
